Ye Old Mitre Review: One for When the Family Visit!

Hidden in an old thin alleyway in between Hatton Garden and Ely place you’ll find Ye Old Mitre; a gem nestled in the centre of the jewellery district, Ye Old Mitre truly transports you from the hustle and bustle of the city of London, to what feels like a cosy country pub.

Not only is the pub an experience in itself, trying to find it was an added bonus. Battling against the typical British rainy weather, we walked up Ely Place- however, coming to a dead end, the adventure to find Ye Olde Mitre continued. Walking back down, nearly admitting defeat I spotted a thin alleyway- showing just how old this part of London is, there was a piece of metal splitting the entrance to the alleyway in half (this was to stop horses getting through) we took our chances and walked down to find Ye Olde Mitre.

The pub itself wraps around a small central bar, stocked full of local ales and London gins. Behind the bar, you are guaranteed to be welcomed with smiley bar staff who I found extremely helpful. Now being the age of 25, I know many of the same age group would prefer somewhere with music and a busy vibe. Ye Old Mitre is far from this, and if it had your standard mainstream bassline and drunken crowds, it wouldn’t have been as magical I am sure! This quiet atmosphere really gave us a good chance to absorb how beautiful the pub really was. Small ceilings, deep brown wooden walls and beams, tiny spiral staircase to take you to the ladies toilets and an area where games and books are available.

Of course, I had to try the pork pie (one of my favourite snacks, only £2.50) and a proper London ale. The pork pie was not like my usual Tesco bite size option, it was a generous size with thin pastry and a boiled egg right in the middle, a beautiful sight for a pork pie lover!

Ye Old Mitre would not be my personal regular place to drink, but it is a must one-off visit, great to take the family or just if you are passing through to get a little taste of old time London.

Somewhere to take the grandparents: 5/5
